The myth of equality: dismantling the narrative of progress

For the average Black citizen in this country, equality resembles a mirage in a desert—something we might perceive or hear of, yet it always appears beyond our reach.

There are instances where there may appear to be some Blacks that are achieving the American dream of Equality, yet they are the ones that are on the Television screens, radios and other forms of entertainment. As they are paraded around in front of media side by side with white socialites with the sole intent of selling the American people the myth of Equality.

After all, let's not forget that not that long ago in this country Equality wasn't always so cherished, talked about nor wanted by the powers that be. For instance, Bull Connor who was the commissioner for public safety in Birmingham Alabama in 1963 who used water hoses and dogs on unarmed protesters that were marching peacefully.

Equality is a myth because if we the Black Citizens did not move mountains to be treated as a Human Being there would be no cries or political signage of Equality bills. Other races those Brown, Asian, or any ethnicities would not have a Bandwagon to hop on to and seek empathy from a crisis they never went through and wasn't theirs.

No races of children, adults were forced to be admitted to schools, lunchrooms made to deliver packages to the back door water fountains and rest rooms designated for Black people with degrading names sometimes for entertainment.

Most of these images and times that I speak about in this article are from the sixties not even seventy years ago, most of us may still have grandparents that are alive and can vividly recall some of His-story that they would want to be forgotten forever.

Not even seventy years ago and here, in 2025 we are still going through the same things and some still dreaming to attain Equality in a country where that doesn't exist. At least in the way Equality is seen in this country., For the Black Family we will never be Equal with any race in this country as they are already ahead of us in every way. Economically, socially, politically, and so on, most Black people won't have health insurance let alone life insurance that would leave their family with anything in the time that they are not here.

Equality in this country is sold to American citizen as a dream and something that if you work hard enough it can be attained. When in reality Equality is every Humans right.
